Another of Patrick Kriss’ projects from his Alo Group – and also a recipient of a Michelin Star – Alobar is tucked along a pathway in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. It puts its foot forward as a cocktail bar, but is in fact a full-fledged restaurant, offering choice raw items with fine accoutrements, fish and chops off of the charcoal grill, and, of course, world-class wines – all served with a genuine sense of welcome.
“When in doubt? No matter what, the menu meets the mood – from the sparkling seafood to salads (classic wedge re-invented!) to perfect pastas and steakhouse sides,” says Susan Willemsen, one of VineRoutes’ voting panelists. She goes on to gush: “Desserts are to die for. Millefeuille! Best? Perfect for plate-sharing. Inspired cocktails, and always a great wine list to peruse. Plus, the stellar, uniformed staff make us feel like we’re special. The girlfriends’ go-to. Cool. Hot. All at once. Love.”
