Widely considered one of Southern Ontario’s true “dining destinations”, Edgewater Manor rightly holds a spot among the Hamilton area’s elite restaurants, based on quality and execution. Originally built in 1920 as a private “castle”, inside and out, the building is something that will never be replicated — all stately carved stone, stained glass, marble staircases. You feel like you’ve taken a trip back seven or eight decades (which you have, architecturally). Its immaculate grounds sit right on the lake along the Stoney Creek waterfront, making this a hot spot for weddings and corporate events.
But it’s the delicious cuisine in this spectacular setting that catches our attention. And pairing the various menu options with an extensive wine list that numbers above 2,500 bottles has us completely intrigued. Although one should expect the classic bottles of California, Tuscany or Bordeaux, Ontario wine definitely plays a role here. Director of Operations and Sommelier Peter Trajkovski says that “Ontario is a major focus when it comes to wine, and I’m always learning from our customers as to what to select for our cellar. I love to take their recommendations and then try them for myself.”
