Treadwell Cuisine

Since opening their doors in May 2006, Treadwell has always been fascinated and driven by the “farm-to-table” concept – something that has been considered the norm for all great restaurants in Europe and many in the US over the past several decades. But let’s not beat around the bush here. Treadwell is one of the original farm-to-table cheerleaders that made the concept a “thing” here in Canada.

For years, chefs have worked with their local suppliers and based their menus upon the seasonal product of the region. They’ve undertaken the same philosophy, emphasizing the best artisan producers from the Niagara region and surrounding areas; using the restaurant to not only showcase their team’s talent to their guests, but also showcase the individuals behind the ingredients.

Their wine program is, and will always be, driven by Niagara – being so fortunate to be located within an area where world class wines are being produced only minutes away. Smaller, quality-driven producers – such as Five Rows, Leaning Post, Pearl Morissette and 2027 Cellars – are staples on their list. “We have, arguably, the largest selection of Ontario wines in the world,” says Sommelier and co-founder James Treadwell. “Local wines make up approximately 60 percent of our total wine list.” And that wine list is huge. With over 700 labels, they have roughly 3,800 total bottles.

Treadwell also has a small, but excellent selection of international wines, with emphasis being placed on sustainable, organic, and biodynamic offerings from smaller, family-run producers. The important thing being, that every food item, every wine, has a distinct story behind it.
