You may know Nadia and Ilya Senchuk as the founders and owners of Leaning Post Wines. You know them as a winemaker/sommelier, husband-wife duo. Or you know them as a plant-based couple who own a vegan-friendly winery.
Did you know, however, that they are Ukrainian-Canadian?
I know them as all the above and am grateful to call them friends. I had planned on interviewing them for a profile piece but with the tragedy that is unfolding in Ukraine, I wanted to reach out and spotlight all that they are doing to collect supplies and funds to help the people of Ukraine.
They have just completed a week of donating all proceeds from all their wines sold via every channel to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, an organization they chose after extensive research to find a charity where the majority of funds raised go to the cause rather than to cover administrative costs or other overhead.
It was an often emotional conversation. How could it not be? But there were also moments of laughter and gratitude and mostly of hope.
