Applications are now open for Canadian restaurants looking to showcase their exceptional food and wine programs, with winners to be announced in early fall
VineRoutes, Canada’s premier online wine lifestyle publication, is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural Restaurant Awards program, celebrating excellence in the Canadian culinary scene. This initiative aims to recognize restaurants that offer exceptional food and wine experiences, highlighting establishments that seamlessly integrate outstanding cuisine with thoughtfully curated wine programs.
Application process now open
Canadian restaurants are invited to submit their applications with the window remaining open until May 31, 2025. To apply, establishments should visit the official application portal here. The application process is designed to be straightforward, allowing restaurants to showcase their unique offerings, commitment to quality, and dedication to providing memorable food and wine experiences.
Award categories and criteria
The VineRoutes Restaurant Awards will encompass a variety of categories to honour diverse aspects of the dining experience. While specific categories are detailed in the official awards information deck, they will include:
- Regional Excellence Award – Recognizing restaurants with a strong commitment to Canadian wines, requiring at least 50% of their wine list to be local/Canadian (for a required minimum of selections). Selections must be thoughtfully curated to complement the menu.
- Award of Distinction – Honours restaurants with extensive, well-rounded wine lists featuring multiple regions and varietals, along with dedicated sommelier service. A minimum of 100 selections (or 70 with at least 25% Canadian labels) is required.
- Vine Award – For Best in Distinction – The highest accolade, celebrating premier establishments with at least 300 wine labels, a breadth of vintages, dedicated sommelier team, and at least 5% Canadian VQA wines in their selection. Winners hold this prestigious title for three years before re-evaluation.
Evaluation criteria will focus on the quality of food and wine, harmony between the menu and wine list, service excellence, and the overall dining experience.
