Toronto-based Dochia Interior Design recognized at the 2025 LIV Hospitality Design Awards for its work on the Niagara-on-the-Lake estate
Canadian firm Dochia Interior Design has been named Winner in Interior Design at the LIV Hospitality Design Awards for its work on Stone Eagle Winery, a striking new estate in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Founded by sisters Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli — the team behind Two Sisters Vineyards — Stone Eagle was conceived as a purpose-built destination dedicated to small-lot, premium wines, thoughtful food pairings and immersive hospitality experiences.

Set on a 36-acre property, the winery blends architectural elegance with warm hospitality, creating spaces that feel both refined and welcoming. Every detail — from soaring ceilings and light-filled rooms to the hand-carved stone eagles that inspired the estate’s name — reflects a balance of artistry and craftsmanship. Its clean lines and open spaces mirror the philosophy behind the wines themselves: precision, balance and structure.

The design concept was realized through the work of Dochia Interior Design, whose approach sought to create an immersive hospitality environment shaped by heritage and elegance. Drawing inspiration from Italian traditions of winemaking and gathering, the project integrates intimate tasting rooms, the Nest restaurant and a series of event and ceremonial spaces into a cohesive architectural narrative.
“The interior rooms unfold, like wine, revealing their details gradually.” – Adriana Mot, Lead Designer
The interior architecture features calibrated proportions, ornate ceilings and carefully choreographed visual sightlines that guide visitors through a layered spatial journey. Textures, materials and scale evoke the enduring elegance of Italian villas while remaining firmly grounded in the surrounding Canadian landscape.

Beyond the wines, Stone Eagle was built with hospitality at its core. The estate includes seven private tasting rooms, a light-filled ballroom, a terrace overlooking the vineyards and an intimate restaurant serving locally sourced, seasonal Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Together, these spaces allow the winery to host everything from private tastings to large-scale celebrations.
Material choices throughout the building reinforce this sense of permanence and craft. Softly pigmented Venetian plaster and vineyard-inspired tones establish a tactile atmosphere, while a refined metal lattice bar anchors a pre-function room — balancing precision metalwork with the patience often associated with winemaking. Custom millwork, lighting fixtures and commissioned artwork further reinforce the design philosophy of longevity and material mastery.

Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Stone Eagle contributes to Canada’s evolving hospitality landscape by positioning winery architecture as a cultural and experiential destination rather than a purely commercial venue.
The LIV Hospitality Design Awards recognize exceptional projects worldwide in architecture and interior design for hospitality environments. This recognition places Stone Eagle Winery among an international selection of projects helping redefine contemporary hospitality design.
