From Tre Bicchieri tastings to limited-seat masterclasses, this event offers rare access to Italy’s leading producers
For many, the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri World Tour is defined by its walkaround tasting—a chance to sample some of Italy’s highest-rated wines in one place. But for those looking to go beyond the glass, this year’s Toronto stop offers something even more compelling: a series of focused masterclasses designed to explore Italy’s regions in greater depth.
Taking place April 29 at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex, the annual event will once again bring together 46 Italian wineries whose wines have earned Tre Bicchieri, the highest distinction in Gambero Rosso’s Vini d’Italia guide. Yet it’s the smaller, more intimate sessions surrounding the main tasting that are quietly becoming the most sought-after experiences of the day.
A closer look at Lombardy—before the main event
For those eager to get an early start, the spotlight turns to northern Italy the day before the grand tasting.
On April 28, the Taste of Lombardy Masterclass offers a dedicated deep dive into one of Italy’s most diverse and often underappreciated regions. Running from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., the session will explore everything from the alpine reds of Valtellina to the refined sparkling wines of Franciacorta—styles that rarely receive this level of focused attention in the Canadian market.
It’s a timely opportunity. While Lombardy is often associated with Milan’s global influence, its wines remain something of a discovery for many drinkers, making this session particularly valuable for those looking to expand their understanding of Italy beyond the familiar.
Limited access, high demand
Back on April 29, the masterclass lineup continues with a series of tightly curated sessions that reflect the breadth of Italian wine today.
A second Lombardy-focused seminar—already fully booked through LCBO product consultants—speaks to the growing demand for these deeper educational experiences. For attendees still hoping to secure a seat, availability remains limited but worthwhile.
A small number of spots are still open for two standout sessions:
- Gerardo Cesari – Amarone Riserva Bosan (Vertical Tasting)
A rare opportunity to explore multiple vintages of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, showcasing both house style and ageing potential. - Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Masterclass
Hosted in collaboration with the Consorzio Vini d’Abruzzo, this session highlights one of central Italy’s most dynamic regions, from structured reds to increasingly compelling whites and rosés.
How to attend
Given the limited capacity of these sessions, advance registration is essential.
To request access to the masterclasses, attendees are encouraged to contact: Events@sogood.it
With only a handful of seats remaining for select sessions, early outreach is strongly recommended.
