VineRoutes shifts its annual Top 20 Wineries release to June, aligning the influential list with Ontario’s peak wine tourism season
VineRoutes will unveil its highly anticipated list of Ontario’s Top 20 Wineries for 2026 on June 2nd, marking a significant shift in how one of the province’s most influential wine guides is presented and utilized.
Since its inception, the annual Top 20 Wineries list has been revealed as a year-end feature, with each edition from 2020 through 2025 announced in mid-December. While this timing originally aligned with the concept of the list as a year-in-review honour roll, its evolution into a practical guide for wine enthusiasts and travelers prompted a rethinking of its release.

“Over time, the list naturally became more than a retrospective; it became a roadmap,” says Carmelo Giardina, Editor of VineRoutes. “Announcing it in December began to feel out of sync with how people were actually using it. By moving the release forward, we’re ensuring it serves as a timely, relevant guide throughout Ontario’s busiest wine tourism months.”
The six-month shift allows the Top 20 Wineries list to better align with the rhythms of the province’s wine scene. With spring, summer, and early fall representing peak travel periods, the updated timing gives readers a fresh, current resource to plan visits, tastings, and regional exploration. Moving beyond 2026, expect to see each year’s list released around this same new timeframe.
“This change gives the list a longer runway,” Giardina adds. “It’s no longer a snapshot that risks feeling dated shortly after publication. Instead, it becomes a living guide, one that people can rely on as they map out their wine experiences across the province.”
The adjusted timeline also reflects a more dynamic editorial process. With the 2026 list arriving just under six months after the 2025 edition, VineRoutes’ editorial team has been tasked with evaluating wineries earlier in the season while drawing on recent visits that remain top of mind.

“It’s required us to be out in the field earlier and more intentionally,” says Giardina. “At the same time, our 2025 visits are still incredibly fresh, which brings a unique clarity and immediacy to this year’s selections.”
Ontario’s Top 20 Wineries list has become a trusted benchmark within the industry, highlighting producers that excel not only in the quality of their wines, but also in delivering compelling, complete visitor experiences. The list continues to celebrate diversity across Ontario’s wine regions, styles, and philosophies, while maintaining a consistent focus on excellence.
The 2026 edition promises to carry that tradition forward, now with a renewed sense of purpose and timing.
