Iron Gate brings back live, in-person bidding to Toronto in conjunction with online auction
The collection of Samuel Sarick, one of Canada’s most prolific wine collectors, comes to the Canadian auction market for the first time, beginning October 24th. Iron Gate Auctions will release 200 lots from the Sarick collection estimated at $600,000/$860,000 through a simultaneous online and live, in-person auction.
The collection’s release is demonstrative of Canada’s ongoing wine retail landscape evolution providing Canadians with increased access to rare, aged wines from private collectors. It also marks the return to live, in-person auction events after more than two years.
“In Canada’s 20-year history of auctions, there’s never been a collection of this magnitude in quality and provenance,” said Stephen Ranger, Senior Advisor at Iron Gate Auctions. “We’ve never seen a collection like this. It marks an important moment for wine collectors and also for Canada as we solidify our place on the global fine wine auction map.”
Samuel Sarick built his collection over his 60 years as an active buyer and member of Conferie du Chevalier du Tastevin. The vast majority of the wines were purchased at source and stored in Sarick’s home cellar equipped with multiple cooling and humidification systems. Highlights of the collection include:
- 4 bottles of 1967 Chateau d’Yquem
- 6 bottles of 2006 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Romanee St. Vivant
- A bottle of 1959 Leroy Chambertin Clos de Beze
- A 1945 Taylor’s Port
- 2 Magnums of 2007 Harlan Estate
- 2 Magnums of 1990 Salon Cuvee S Le Mesnil
After two-years of running successful online-only auctions, Iron Gate will release the Sarick collection in a hybrid auction format. Bids can be placed online from anywhere across Canada or in-person at a special live auction event in Toronto.
“Samuel Sarick was inarguably one of the most passionate wine collectors in Canadian history, so what better way to honour his wine legacy than by celebrating with the first live, in-person auction after more than two years’ absence,” said Warren Porter, Founder and President, Iron Gate Auctions. “Live auctions provide an important connection for our community that we’ve missed for the past two years. Quite frankly, they are fun and give us a great excuse to taste wines together.“
The Exceptional Wines of Samuel Sarick will be available for online bidding on the IronGateAuctions.com platform beginning 9 a.m. EST on Monday, Oct. 24. Buyers can register and place bids from their desktop, tablet or smartphone using the Iron Gate app.

“My father was passionate about many things, including wine. In all of his pursuits, he was relentlessly focused on finding – and collecting – the best,” said Jordan Sarick. “I was lucky enough to have tasted many of the wines in this collection in the company of friends and colleagues. In his absence, our family is pleased to work with Iron Gate to present this selection of wine in Toronto, especially among the community he so respected and loved.”
Online bids will be accepted throughout the live auction. Absentee bids will also be available and buyers are asked to contact info@irongate.wine before Thursday, Oct. 20 to make arrangements.
