Rooted in the County: Closson Chase’s next chapter

January 28, 2026
As Closson Chase looks to the season ahead, the County landmark embraces subtle change—honouring its past while refining the experience for a new era

There is a quiet familiarity to driving down Closson Road, a sense of returning to a place that has grown alongside the community for over 25 years. But even the most storied histories have new chapters. As we look toward the upcoming season, Closson Chase is subtly evolving, proving they can move forward without ever losing sight of where they planted their first vines.

A bridge between two eras

The iconic purple barn has long been a symbol of the estate, but the magic of the property often lies just beyond its doors. Tucked behind that familiar silhouette is the garden, a hidden gem that has blossomed over the years into a secluded sanctuary. Closson Chase has always been known for this sense of escape; it is a space that feels just as right during the vibrant, social hum of a Saturday afternoon as it does on a quiet weekday, when locals slip in with a book to enjoy the peace. To make those afternoons even more inviting, guests can still enjoy casual bites in the garden, a thoughtful touch that makes it even easier to linger a little longer.

Closson Chase

Closson Chase over the years: From dairy barn to purple icon.

While the purple barn remains the visual heart of the estate, the tasting experience is finding a fresh rhythm in a newly improved space. This new space will serve as a bridge between the winery’s beginnings and its future. Inside, a curated collection of photographs will guide guests through the winery’s heritage, tracing the story from the restoration of the century-old dairy barn to their significant sustainable milestones.

Rooted in the soil

Closson Chase’s dedication to the land is why sustainability is a standard here. From their Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario certification to their low-intervention practices, every bottle reflects the soil and the season, captured with a respect for the environment that has guided the winery for decades.

For Winemaker Keith Tyers, the story is always told through the land. He finds pride in the distinct personalities of the South Clos and Churchside vineyards. Though separated only by the narrow stretch of Closson Road, each produces wine with a character all its own.
