As we prepare to close down another year, we unveil the year’s list of wines that made their indelible mark on our expert tasters. Only instead of revealing a list that has been solely comprised of Ontario wines the last few years, we’re expanding the footprint to include wines from British Columbia as well.
With hundreds of wines having been tasted that represent Canada’s primary wine regions in Ontario and BC, we’ve again narrowed it down to 50 standout wines – as chosen by our principal editor Carmelo Giardina and contributing editor, and Canadian Wine Scholar, Leah Spooner.

As many wines are made in limited quantities and not available in every market, our list of 50 is not necessarily a “shopping list,” but rather a guide to wineries to watch in the future—a reflection of the producers and wines that both Carmelo and Leah have become particularly passionate about. And, just like previous years, this is not a ranking. Wines are listed in random order.
If you want to know which of these 50 wines made Carmelo’s final Top 10 List for the Best Canadian Wines of the Year, you’ll need to sign up for the VineRoutes Newsletter and wait for the announcement on December 27th. Already a subscriber? No worries, you’re all set!
These 50 offerings were the most exciting Canadian-produced wines of 2023, selected because they were compelling and delicious:
