When it comes to cocktails with a hauntingly good history, few are as perfectly suited to Halloween as the Corpse Reviver No.2. Originally created in the early 20th century as a hangover cure (hence the name), this classic concoction was said to have the power to “revive” the dead — or at least anyone feeling a little worse for wear after a long night. Elegant, citrusy, and aromatic, it’s a drink that has stood the test of time and continues to inspire mixologists around the world.
This modern twist comes courtesy of Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers, a Niagara-based craft distillery celebrated for its artisanal approach and fresh, local ingredients. Featuring Dillon’s Dry Gin 7, Lillet Blanc, Dillon’s Orange Liqueur, and a whisper of Dillon’s Absinthe, this cocktail is as spirited as it is sophisticated. The addition of a blood-red glass garnish—made from cherry concentrate and coconut fat—adds a playfully eerie touch that’s ideal for Halloween gatherings.
Make the Corpse Reviver No.2 at home:
Ingredients:
Dillon’s Absinthe, for glass rinse
0.75 oz Dillon’s Dry Gin 7
0.75 oz Lillet Blanc
0.75 oz Dillon’s Orange Liqueur
0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp cherry concentrate or pomegranate syrup (for garnish)
1 tsp coconut fat (for garnish)
Method:
Combine cherry concentrate and coconut fat to make your “blood” glass garnish. Brush onto your coupe glass and place in the freezer to chill.
Rinse the inside of your chilled glass with absinthe, discarding any excess.
In a cocktail shaker, add gin, Lillet Blanc, orange liqueur, and lemon juice. Add ice and shake for 10–15 seconds.
Strain into your prepared glass, adding a large ice cube if desired.
A drink that’s both ghoulish and glamorous, Dillon’s Corpse Reviver No.2 is proof that some classics really can come back from the dead.
